Why is Gatwick Short Stay Car Park so expensive?
I want to pick my boyfriend up from Gatwick on Fri/Sat morning. I put in the times (arrive at 11pm - leave at 1am) on the Gatwick Car Park Pre Booking website and it says it will cost £20 for Short Stay, but only £8.70 for Long.
I dont want to stay in the Long as its further from the airport but i cant believe Short stay would be £10 an hour? Does anyone know what the rate is if you just go in there on the evening rather than pre-book?
Why do you want to be there for two hours? If you know the flight number, you can find the expected arrival time, before you start your journey, by going to the Gatwick Airport website & clicking on to Flight arrivals. This is something I do quite often, and I time it so that I arrive about 45 minutes after landing. By pre-arrangement with whoever I’m meeting, I pick them up from the short term car park and the fee, providing I’m no longer than 15 minutes, is £1.00p.
At South terminal the car park to pick up from is the short stay park 3 (orange). When meeting someone from North terminal, at an early hour of the morning recently, I actually picked them up from where I dropped them off at departures. There was no one around telling me to move on, so I avoided a parking fee altogether.
Presumably both you and your boyfriend will have mobile phones, so you should be able to arrange it quite easily, so that it costs you no more than a £1.00p.
can i pick up from outside gatwick airport by car?
I am collecting family from gatwick and wondered if I can pick up outside terminal or do I have to park the car and go into arrivals?
Apparently not. This from the Gatewick website:
Private vehicles picking up passengers from the airport will be directed to use Short Stay Car Park 3 (orange).
Stansted Airport (Nov 2009) - Pickup - park in nearby town & catch a bus?
As my partner’s parents now have to fly from Slovakia into Stansted, arriving tomorrow at 11.15am, what might be the most cost effective way to collect them. The pickup charges appear ludicrous and do not think anything has improved since last experience. In Luton I can park in the medium parking for £3 and get 2 hours parking and it not much more than a 10 minute walk to the terminal. I do not think it fair to have to pay nearer £10 at Stansted so I would prefer if this is the case to use a local bus service and give the money to the local community. So how much, how long and how easy will it be for me to find fair parking in e.g. Bishops Stortford and get the 3 of us back in a reasonably short period of time. I would say drive up to Birchanger Services which is at the M11 junction where the turn off for Stansted Airport is http://motorwayservicesonline.co.uk/Birchanger_Green … tell your partner’s parents to phone you on your mobile phone once they have cleared Customs and are heading for the arrivals area, if they don’t have a mobile phone too there are always payphones around … in the meantime you sit in the motorway services with free parking having a coffee waiting for their call … when they call tell them to make their way to the Short Stay Car Park … with a bit of luck they will get there about the same time as you do … the first 30 minutes in the Short Stay Car Park costs £2.50

Gatwick Airport parking / drop-off ?
I have to drop some people off at Gatwick Airport (South Terminal) at the weekend but do I have to park in the short stay car park or is there a drop-off place where I can just unload them & then leave.
Yeah there are drop off points outside both the North and South Terminal. Just follow the signs and you’ll get there.
