PostHeaderIcon Was Owen a traitor to Liverpool or Liverpool betrayed him?

To those scousers who accuse him of being a traitor, lets not forget IT WAS LIVERPOOL SOLD OWEN to Real Madrid and wouldn’t buy him back when he left Madrileno dump, when he clearly wanted to come back to Anfield Dump.

At no stage while Owen’s been at Newcastle have ruthless liverpool shown any interests in him. True, Owen could have spent time between Haydock Park and treatment centres but Owen owes ruthless liverpool absolutely nothing!

i couldnt put it better myself … have a star..

liverpool betrayed him for sure… when they sold him it wasnt as if he didnt wanna be there or tht he wasnt scoring … he was loyal….but liverpool chose to sell him…. they werent poor or anything they cud have rejected the offer for him … but they bargained and so owen left…now owen had onli 3 choices… join stoke/hull and fight for survival for another season…. stay on at newcastle… or get a chance to fight for trophies with man utd…. and he chose the wisest option…. just think if he joined stoke/hull and got relegated… he wud be bac to step 1

They sold him because he wanted to go.
He dragged on his contract extension for a very long time, and kept on saying that he wanted to stay at Liverpool.
When Madrid’s offer came he accepted it immediately. No Liverpool fan will forget this.

it was all about the money to Liverpool selling there best player, and when he wanted to come back what did Liverpool nothing not interested in you at all

i have accepted that Owen will play for Man Utd and there is nothing more he can do except show Liverpool that Michael Owen is a still a star player and should never have closed the door on one of there "favourite sons"

For god sake all the answers above are just amazing.

Owen was offered a new contract he turned it down because he heard real madrid was interested. His contract was running low so we sold him for a low price rather then him walk away on a free he refused to play matches so he was not cup tied. Liverpool did not sign him again as madrid wanted a lot of money for him and his wages were massive,

So no we did not betray him he says so himself.

He wanted to play for a bigger club than Liverpool, so he left for Madrid.

He wanted to play for a much bigger club than Madrid, so he left for Newcastle.

He wanted to still get paid for not playing, so he is now in ManU.

    Enjoy!

Thank god for Dan the fisher man- he’s the only person making sense!

The fact of the matter is that money meant more to owen then loyalty.
